Did You Poop Today?
Okay, hear me out.
This might sound like the start of a weird wellness checklist but lately I’ve been focusing on these three super simple but wildly powerful questions:
Did you eat?
Did you poop?
Did you sleep?
On the surface, they sound like basic bodily maintenance (and yeah, they are), but when I started looking at them a little deeper — like life audit level deeper — things got really interesting.
So pull up a chair, because this might blow your mind.
1. Did You Eat?
AKA: What are you consuming…really?
Sure, food is part of this. But also, what else are you feeding yourself?
What kind of content are you consuming? What kind of conversations are you having? What kind of energy are you absorbing from your environment?
Lately I’ve caught myself spiraling after too much doomscrolling or binge-watching stuff that doesn’t make me feel good. Or, I’ve been in situations where the vibe is just…draining. And when I ask myself, “Did you eat?” it’s like I’m actually asking, what did I just take in?
Did it nourish me or deplete me?
We’re always consuming — not just food — but energy, emotions, information. And when you look at your day through that lens, it’s wild how much you start noticing. So now I check in with myself, was that meal, that convo, that scroll session actually satisfying? Or am I full but still hungry?
2. Did You Poop?
AKA: What are you holding onto that you were meant to let go of?
I know this one is kinda gross but also...necessary. Because girl, everyone poops AND we were never meant to hold it all in — physically, emotionally or energetically.
Maybe you’ve had a hard conversation brewing for weeks. Maybe your calendar is packed with stuff you hate doing. Or maybe you’re carrying guilt, shame, resentment and stories you’ve outgrown but haven’t quite released.
This is where the metaphor gets juicy.
Elimination is a form of freedom.
If we don’t regularly release what no longer serves us, old beliefs, bad boundaries, constant comparison, internalized pressure — it festers. Just like our bodies need to eliminate waste to stay healthy, our minds and spirits need regular clean-outs, too.
So yeah, ask yourself: Did I poop?
And if not — what am I still holding that I need to release?
3. Did You Sleep?
AKA: When did you last reset?
Not just physically (though yes, let’s prioritize that too) but also mentally, emotionally and energetically.
Sometimes the answer isn’t more hustle, more planning, more coffee — it’s actually…rest. Stillness. Silence.
Sleep, in all its forms, is a reset. A recalibration.
Maybe it’s a literal nap. Maybe it’s a digital detox. Maybe it’s saying “no” so you can actually hear yourself think. But sleep is where we restore, repair and reconnect to what matters.
If you're exhausted, overwhelmed, short-fused or foggy — you might not need to push through. You might just need to power down.
So why does this matter?
Because these three questions — Did you eat? Did you poop? Did you sleep? — are simple but profound checkpoints for our whole being.
They help us:
Notice what we’re unconsciously absorbing
Let go of what we’re hoarding emotionally
And give ourselves permission to actually rest
It’s basic biology meets emotional self-inquiry meets soul care. And when I started using them as a daily check-in, things got clearer. I stopped running on autopilot and started responding to what I actually needed.
So yeah, maybe it sounds silly. But the next time you feel off, start here. Ask yourself these three questions.
You might be surprised what comes up.
